The Doomerism Divide
I’ve been studying the trends in financial nihilism and doomerism and have realized that it’s sadly become an important component to a growing number of people’s personalities and life views.
But at its core it’s nothing but a trap. People get stuck obsessing over how everything’s bound to crash and burn and they lean into it like it’s some deep, hard truth.
On the surface, they’ve got their facts straight: Climate change is real, economies are strained, and politics are an absolute mess. It makes them feel like they’re seeing the world clearly.
But what’s also true is that folks who break out of this mindset are the ones who end up happier and more successful. They’re not ignoring the problems. They just refuse to let the gloom define them.
Instead of surrendering to the “we’re doomed” vibe, they find ways to act, adapt, and build something better. This attitudinal shift makes all the difference.
And just an FYI—I’m starting to develop ideas for how to tackle this divide. It’s exciting and hopefully will prove to be important work.
