Industries in Which AI Will Actually Create Jobs
Originally a thread on X/Twitter:
Everyone is talking about how AI is going to make many jobs and skills obsolete. There’s truth to this but it doesn’t mean that every job is at risk.
I did a little digging and created a short list of job fields that could be worth leaning into if you’re worried about this trend!
AI & Machine Learning: It’s kind of obvious, but someone has to create the AI technology for AI to continue on its current path. AI is reshaping every industry, so it’s not a surprise that The World Economic Forum projects 40% job growth in AI disciplines by 2027.
Healthcare (Aging & Mental Health): Aging populations and mental health needs are already surging. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects 16% healthcare job growth by 2030. The World Health Organization believes there’s already a 4MM worker shortage globally. Nurses, therapists, and geriatric specialists are in particular demand. Many opportunities won’t require college degrees, but there will be increased demand for people skilled in health informatics and AI diagnostics.
Renewable Energy & Sustainability: It’s obvious that we have a climate problem which will require green expertise to solve. The International Energy Agency projects 42MM renewable jobs by 2050. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a 68% growth for solar/wind techs by 2030.
Cybersecurity: Cyber threats rise with digital growth and technological advancements. Cybersecurity Ventures believes there’s already a major gap given industry needs. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a 33% growth in security roles by 2030.
Product/UX Design: This might seem counterintuitive given AI’s projected role in the product creation process, but AI needs intuitive interfaces, especially when they interact with humans. LinkedIn published that there’s been a 74% rise in AI-UX jobs since 2020.
If you want to have a really valuable skill set in the future, you should think about blending skills so that you become an “in-demand expert” for something very specific like blending AI with healthcare or cyber with finance. The data suggests hybrid roles are rising.
The real key is to be able to adapt to change. The unavoidable truth is that jobs will shift rapidly as tech advances. To stay on top, build problem-solving and learning skills, remain flexible, stay curious, and keep growing!
