Do the Hard Thing
Founders and Investors need to internalize that they’re playing a multi-move game. Making the current move “easier” isn’t always the right answer. In fact, it could make the next move incredibly difficult.
The objective function for a great startup should be to maximize the aperture of potential investors in the future – not to minimize distraction now. And moves like “layered SAFE notes” are an easy way to turn off a massive % of high quality investors.
My advice. Do the hard thing now.
